Case Coordinator - Volunteer Attorney Project

Legal Aid of Western Missouri is seeking a Case Coordinator for the Volunteer Attorney Project.  Legal Aid of Western Missouri is a nonprofit firm providing civil legal services to low income persons. As with all job openings at Legal Aid, second language proficiency in a language commonly spoken by Legal Aid’s clients or potential clients, particularly Spanish, but also Arabic, Vietnamese, Somali or Dinka will be viewed favorably in the hiring decision. The ability to speak in a second language, however, is not a requirement for this job.

 

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: coordinate placement of client matters with appropriate volunteer attorney panel; generate documentation and correspondence for attorneys and clients; maintaining filing system, ticker system and follow-up for paperwork relating to pending cases and documentation of closed cases; perform data entry for each case matter; develop statistical reports as needed and present information as requested during related project meetings; regularly communicate with the general public, clients and attorneys as well as other professionals; and perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

 

Also, the VAP Case Coordinator must have the ability to build and maintain relationships with existing volunteer attorneys.

 

The incumbent is delegated full authority necessary for the effective performance of all assigned responsibilities subject to the restrictions, requirements, and terms of LAWMO’s policies and instructions; applicable local, state, and federal laws; and the dictates of sound judgment, prudence, and ethical conduct.  The incumbent is fully accountable to the Director of the Volunteer Attorney Project.

 

Qualified candidates must have the following: four-year degree, paralegal certificate or related law office experience; excellent oral and written communication skills; must be well organized and thorough; able to work well with people of varied backgrounds and have a professional demeanor; some local travel may be required; strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build rapport and develop relationships with others; dedicated to Legal Aid of Western Missouri’s mission of providing free civil legal assistance to people who need it most and can afford it least.

 

Starting salary is contingent on experience.
