ATTORNEY (TRIBAL COURT LICENSED) Location(s): Arizona and New Mexico No closing date; open until filled Website: https://dnalegalservices.org/career-opportunities-2/ DNA - People's Legal Services is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit legal aid organization that provides free civil legal services to low-income people who otherwise could not afford to hire an attorney. DNA is committed to providing high quality legal services to persons living in poverty on the Navajo, Hopi and Jicarilla Apache Reservations, and in parts of Northern Arizona, Northwest New Mexico, and Southern Utah. DNA's main office, as well as DNA's Fort Defiance branch office, are located in Window Rock, Arizona. DNA also has branch offices in Chinle, Arizona, Tuba City, Arizona, Flagstaff, Arizona, on the Hopi BIA judicial compound near Keams Canyon, Arizona, and Farmington, New Mexico. DNA legal staff practice in tribal, state, federal, and administrative courts. RESPONSIBILITIES: (a)Provide the full range of high-quality legal services to DNA clients. (b)Be familiar with and follow all DNA and funder policies, and all applicable state, federal, and local regulations. (c)Participate in community outreach, training programs, and client education events. (d)Participate in remote, local, or online intake. (e)Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements: 

REQUIREMENTS: Tribal Court Advocates must be licensed to practice in the applicable Tribal Court. Must have strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to travel and work throughout the DNA service area; competence in working with diverse individuals and communities, especially with Native Americans, persons of color, other marginalized communities; and a commitment to providing legal services to the poor. Preference is given to applicants with first, a college degree, and second, 1 year or more of college education. Preference is also given to applicant who's bilingual in another relevant language and applicants willing to commit to stay with DNA for at least 3 years after being hired. Applicants must have acceptable references.
