SALARY: $56,000 to $65,757/annual DOE, excellent benefits

The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) is the frontline law firm for low-income people in Los Angeles and is currently accepting applications for two full time Attorney positions. LAFLA seeks to achieve equal justice for poor and low-income people in greater Los Angeles. We change lives through direct representation, systems change, and community education.
The Organization: LAFLA (www.LAFLA.org) consists of approximately 120 employees, including 65 attorneys. The program has an annual operating budget of more than 14 million, and operates five neighborhood offices, four self-help legal access centers and three courthouse-based domestic violence/family law clinics.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
• Provide direct legal services in the form of VAWA/U Visa/T Visa applications and/or VAWA Cancellation to victims of domestic violence, torture and other serious crimes who are in removal proceedings;
• Travel regularly to Adelanto and other local detention facilities to conduct intake and meet with clients;
• Develop appropriate intake systems a. participate in regular meetings with community members;
• Outreach to immigrant communities both in detention and in the community;
• Conduct trainings and outreach to community based organizations and community groups;
• Coordinate with other assistance organizations in the area by implementing partner meetings to assure appropriate and efficient coverage of services; and
• Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer attorneys and law students.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Active membership in the California State Bar;
- One to three years experience as an attorney;
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable law and community legal needs;
- Ability to meet deadlines and perform multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail;
- Excellent written and verbal communication;
- Experience with diverse client population;
- Experience handling a variety of legal matters impacting poor and low income populations;
- Exempt employees shall work evenings and weekends as necessitated by job duties to meet professional duties to clients;
- Spanish language ability preferred.
