Attorney (Homeless Prevention Project)
Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance, Inc. (GBLA) seeks an Attorney to work in our Homeless Prevention Unit to address a range of issues that affect the homeless population in Kern County. This project is focused on providing clients who are homeless or at risk for homelessness with a broad range of legal assistance that removes barriers to receiving and staying housed. The Attorney must be able to demonstrate capacity to maintain a large caseload which may include: Interviewing prospective clients; analyzing their legal problems; rendering legal advice; negotiation with opposing parties and agencies; preparing and submitting documents for clients; representing clients in various phases of litigation; attending community meetings; developing positive relationships with client communities; developing complex litigation; finding solutions to broader client problems through litigation.
This attorney position is a salaried with position with an annual salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. ($65,856- $74,122). GBLA offers a generous benefit package, a 37.5-hour workweek, paid sick and vacation leave. 100% employer-paid medical premium for employee (dependent coverage optional though a Sec 125 plan paid by employee) 100% employer-paid premium dental and life insurance for employee and dependents. 100% employer paid long/short term disability for employee. Employee also has the option to participate in a 403(b) retirement plan, employee only contributions.

Must be able to interact with a wide arrange of the client population in a kind and appropriate manner. Active membership in the State Bar of California or member of the Bar of another state and willing to take the California Bar at the next available opportunity or J.D degree from an accredited law school.
