Administrative Legal Secretary - Senior Litigators (Hybrid)

  • Position: Administrative Legal Secretary - Senior Litigators

The Administrative Legal Secretary (ALS) job description is an “extra duties” job description which a Legal Secretary currently holds in addition to the Legal Secretary functions. As a result, such clerical is compensated with and additional bonus credit as set forth in Article 45.1.

The Senior Litigator ALS will provide all litigation support for CRLA’s Senior Litigators as normally required by an ALS. In addition, the Senior Litigator ALS will serve as a mentor and trainer, providing education and support to ALS and Legal Secretaries to develop the necessary skills to support affirmative and impact litigation undertaken by local field offices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains all duties of the Legal Secretary position as described in the Legal Secretary job description
  • Serve as coordinator of clerical and litigation support responsibilities for the Statewide Senior Litigators
  • Provide litigation support (format briefs, including preparing tables of contents and tables of authorities; electronically file court documents; upload documents and organize CRLA litigation files; and other litigation support duties as assigned)
  • Maintain statistical records as required, create and produce reports in CMS
  • Maintain  administrative files and records  for Senior Litigators
  • Assure that legal deadlines are met in the processing of legal documents
  • Maintain the court and appointment calendar for cases involving Senior Litigators
  • Order and maintain office equipment and supplies for the Senior Litigators
  • Disseminate information from ALS meetings
  • Provide training and support for field office and Program support staff to develop litigation support skills, including but not limited to formatting and finalizing filings, electronically filing court documents, organizing litigation files, and other litigation support duties.
  • Process all invoices, bills, statements, check requests for payment for Senior Litigators
  • Assist off-site IT personnel with the local provision of tech support
  • Perform other office duties as assigned, including assisting with the new applicant and client intake process.


  • Five (5) years’ experience working in a law office.
  • Three (3) years’ experience as Administrative Legal Secretary or equivalent experience providing administrative litigation support in a high stress environment;
  • Extensive experience and proficiency with electronic filing systems, court deadline calendaring, preparation and maintenance of litigation files
  • Type 55-60 w.p.m.
  • Knowledge of technology not limited to Microsoft Windows, Microsoft OfficeSuite, Table of Authorities, Internet, and web-based programs and email;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • Knowledge of multi-attorney law office management;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to learn data entry and to enter information efficiently and correctly into CRLA’s case management system;
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn and obtain proficiency in all functions of office equipment such as copiers, facsimile machines and scanners;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all CRLA staff, clients and community organizations;
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality of personnel and administrative records;

Preferred Education and Experience:

A highly qualified and desirable candidate would also have the following:

  • Experience working with low-income families and communities.
  • Experience in a non-profit legal services environment.
  • Prior experience in legal services.
  • Fluency in written and oral Spanish is preferred.

This is a union position (Legal Service Workers for Rural California "LSWRC" ), and the estimated starting hourly range for this position is $24.00 - $31.88 (placement in the range is primarily determined by years of related experience).
