Accountant

Full-time Accountant.

Community Legal Aid Society, Inc. (CLASI) has been helping to provide equal access to justice in Delaware since 1946.  CLASI offers free civil legal services to the following:

·         People with disabilities (as the Protection & Advocacy System for Delaware);

·         Older citizens (60 and over);

·         Victims of housing discrimination (under HUD’s Fair Housing Initiative Program);

·         People living in poverty;

·         Victims of domestic violence; and

·         Immigrant victims of crime, abuse, and neglect.

 

CLASI seeks a full-time Accountant to work in the Finance Department.  Primary duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

·         Maintain chart of accounts;

·         Prepare journal entries;

·         Reconcile general ledger accounts and bank accounts;

·         Prepare financial statements and other reports for internal and external parties;

·         Monitor compliance with OMB Uniform Guidance and other grant requirements;

·         Assist with budget preparation and monitoring;

·         Assist with grant funding requests;

·         Maintain fixed asset inventory records;

·         Provide back-up for accounts payable, cash receipts, and payroll functions;

·         Assist with Human Resources administration;

·         File and maintain documentation for accounting transactions;

·         Assist with coordination of annual audit and other monitoring visits; and

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Salary is commensurate with experience.  CLASI offers a generous benefit package.

 

This position reports to the Chief Administrative & Financial Officer and works closely with the Accounting Assistant and other CLASI staff.

Requirements: 

Minimum qualifications include:

·         Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field;

·         Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP);

·         Skill with spreadsheet applications such as Excel;

·         Attention to detail;

·         Excellent organizational skills;

·         Ability to work independently; and

·         Ability to work collaboratively with others.

 

Preferred qualifications include:

·         Knowledge of and experience with OMB Uniform Guidance;

·         Knowledge of and experience with not-for-profit accounting;

·         Experience with AccuFund accounting software or similar applications; and

·         Understanding and support of CLASI’s mission.

 

The position is located in CLASI’s New Castle County office.  However, occasional travel to the Kent County and Sussex County offices may be required.
