Building Bridges, Not Walls: Effective Communication in Difficult DEI Conversations

Building Bridges, Not Walls: Effective Communication in Difficult DEI Conversations

with Danielle Marshall

Tuesday, August 15

2:00 - 4:00 PM ET
Virtual

The last few years have brought a new awareness of the need not only to focus on racial equity, but to begin normalizing race-based conversations in the workplace. Yet, many well-intentioned organizations are still missing the mark. This session will explore patterns that limit our ability to hold crucial conversations and provide a framework to support organizations in building the muscle to facilitate conversations, build community, and stay in conversation over time.

In this session, participants will:

  • Identify patterns that may inhibit meaningful race-based conversations
  • Apply a framework for courageous conversations
  • Analyze strategies to make conversations and collaborative efforts more inclusive

Danielle Marshall, Founder of Culture Principles, has worked in the nonprofit sector for 20+ years developing innovative programs that promote racial equity and social justice. She is a dynamic public speaker and facilitator who focuses on strengthening collaboration among teams, leaders, and stakeholders to foster problem-solving, create solutions, and improve culture.  Danielle finds inspiration in leading systemic change work that promotes equity and inclusion.

In response to a persistent need to move organizations beyond DEI statements to develop strategic and actionable equity goals, Danielle founded Culture Principles. As a Certified Diversity Professional and Executive Coach with a Master’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Louisiana Tech University, she draws on experience as an I/O psychologist in applying a racial equity lens to organizational policies, practices, and programs.
