Join MIE and legal aid leaders from across the country for the 2023 MIE National Conference for Legal Services Administrators, to be held in Anaheim, California on April 18 - 19, 2023. This two-day, in-person conference will support Executive Directors, Deputy Directors, Office Managers, Executive Assistants, and Directors of HR, Finance, Administration, DEI, Operations, Information, among others to Lead from Within: Growing Competence and Collaboration for Organizational Transformation.

 

The conference will contain more than twenty concurrent sessions in the following categories:

  • Staff Management (e.g. Employee Onboarding, Staff Wellness, Remote Working Relationships)
  • Organizational Logistics (e.g. Cyber Security and Insurance, Grant Management, Benefits Options)
  • Organizational Leadership (e.g. Strategic Planning, DEI Implementation, Union Issues)


The conference will also explore hot topics in legal aid operations as well as plenary sessions on leadership development and skills.

Our Opening Plenary Speaker
Julia Wilson (www.JuliaWilsonCoaching.com) is a leadership coach and nonprofit management consultant serving individuals, teams, organizations, and statewide systems in the legal services and nonprofit sectors. Julia brings to her work over 20 years of leadership in nonprofit organizations, including 15 years in the executive role leading nonprofits working to advance justice through legal services and pro bono strategies. During Julia’s 12 years as the CEO of OneJustice, she served as the organization’s principal consultant and provided support and trainings to legal aid and civil justice nonprofits, courts, and justice systems around the country. Julia is an award-winning social justice innovator with expertise on pro bono systems, pro bono design & delivery, strategic planning, board governance, and meeting design & facilitation.Julia has been a lead consultant, trainer, facilitator, and faculty member in a variety of projects focused on capacity building, nonprofit management, and board governance. Julia is a former attorney and is certified in multiple modalities on leadership development, team performance, organizational systems, conflict resolution, nonprofit board governance, mindfulness in the workplace, well-being, and community resilience.




Our Closing Plenary Speaker
Nachama Wilker is the Founder and CEO of Thrive Partnerships. Thrive Partnerships is passionate about supporting nonprofit leaders to build, sustain and grow dynamic high-performing organizations. Thrive offers assessments, leadership coaching, facilitation, training, and consultations to support our clients in rising to the challenges of our times to create a more just and equitable society.

Prior to launching Thrive, Nachama spent 18 years as Deputy Executive Director for Training and Technical Assistance with the National Disability Rights Network (NDRN). NDRN is the national voluntary membership association of the state Protection and Advocacy Agencies (P&As), the largest providers of legal services to people with disabilities in the country. In this position, Nachama supported the P&A Executive Directors, senior managers and their Boards of Directors on all aspects of running their agencies.

While at NDRN, Nachama spearheaded a formalized leadership program for the P&A network that trained and supported at least 60 emerging, mid-level and senior leaders to become the kind of leader they admire. She coached more than thirty new executive leaders through their first year. Nachama led NDRN’s peer organizational assessments program and is an experienced strategic planning facilitator. She holds certificates of completion for the Leadership Practices Inventory coaching as well as one for non-profit board consulting from BoardSource. Nachama comes to this work from a deeply personal place as a mother, wife, and daughter to individuals with several different disabilities including mental illness, physical, and developmental disabilities. Her personal and professional experience drives her passion and commitment to fight for an equitable society where all people with disabilities can freely exercise their civil, legal, and human rights.

Registration Rates
Each registration fee covers one participant. 
MIE Subscribers: $575
Non-subscribers: $675
Included in the registration fee are lunch on the first day, in addition to continental breakfast, sodas, coffee, and snacks each day. Lunch on the second day and dinners will be on your own. Please let us know if you have any specific dietary needs or accessibility accommodations. 
Conference content will be from 9 am to 5:30 pm, with a continental breakfast at 8 am both days.


Registration Information & Policies
Deadline: Register and Reserve Your Room by March 22.
Registration is open until March 22 or until we reach our participant limit.

Registration fees are non-refundable. MIE will provide a credit for the full amount of the registration fee, which may be used by any staff at your organization for any future MIE events (trainings, conferences, webinars) or MIE subscription payments. Credits do not expire. An event registration may be transferred to a colleague at the same program at no additional cost. In most cases, registration transfers may be made at any time prior to the start of an event. Please notify MIE of substitutions as soon as possible. If a registration transfer is not practicable, credit will be provided instead. Registrants who do not cancel before the start of an event will not be credited, however, they will receive access to the event materials.

Photo and Hotel Consent MIE may need to speak to hotel staff regarding room reservations in our block for the training. In addition, we will be taking photographs during the training that may be used in publicity efforts, including future MIE communications, social media, the MIE Journal, or at the MIE website. By registering, you're confirming that you allow MIE to speak with hotel staff regarding your room reservation and understand that your photo may be taken during the training and used for publicity efforts.
