New Executive Director Training

Tuesday and Wednesday, May 2 - 3, 2023
8:30 am – 5:00 pm

Immediately preceding the 2023 ABA / NLADA Equal Justice Conference, Dallas, Texas

 

This MIE New Executive Director Training will help you thrive as a new Legal Aid Executive Director. The multiple challenges of this moment – pandemic, racism, remote work, and economy – require us to evaluate and change up the ways we advance our mission and develop new leadership approaches. At the same time, the ongoing demands of funding and running a complex program require skills and attention. In this training, you will engage with peers, hear from experienced leaders, and gain diverse perspectives from colleagues who also face these challenges. Given all the demands on your time right now, this training is a worthwhile investment, providing assistance with specific issues you will be dealing with for the short term and relationship building with other new executive directors who can form a support base for the long term.

MIE New Executive Director Training is designed for the challenges facing the legal aid executive director today. Join us if you are a new director of an LSC-funded, IOLTA-funded, elder law, pro bono, or protection and advocacy program.

  • Financial Leadership and Management
  • An Effective and Supportive Board of Directors
  • An Effective Program and the Executive Director’s Job

Training leaders will include Jacquelynne Bowman, Executive Director, Greater Boston Legal Services; Yvonne Mariajimenez, Executive Director, Neighborhood Legal Services of LA County; Merf Ehman, Executive Director, Columbia Legal Services; and Kesha James, Executive Director, Management Information Exchange.


Registration will be limited for this training to ensure productive small group discussion.

Included in the registration fee are continental breakfast, sodas, coffee, and snacks each day. Lunch and dinner will be on your own. Please let us know if you have any specific dietary needs or accessibility accommodations.

Registration Information & Policies
Registration deadline: March 30, 2023.

Registration fees are non-refundable. MIE will provide a credit for the full amount of the registration fee, which may be used by any staff at your organization for any future MIE events (trainings, conferences, webinars) or MIE subscription payments. Credits do not expire. An event registration may be transferred to a colleague at the same program at no additional cost. In most cases, registration transfers may be made at any time prior to the start of an event. Please notify MIE of substitutions as soon as possible. If a registration transfer is not practicable, credit will be provided instead. Registrants who do not cancel before the start of an event will not be credited, however, they will receive access to the event materials.

Photo and Hotel Consent MIE may need to speak to hotel staff regarding room reservations in our block for the training. In addition, we will be taking photographs during the training that may be used in publicity efforts, including future MIE communications, social media, the MIE Journal, or at the MIE website.  By registering, you're confirming that you allow MIE to speak with hotel staff regarding your room reservation and understand that your photo may be taken during the training and used for publicity efforts.
