MIE will present a webinar on November 9, 2017 on strategies and techniques for Legal Aid Supervisors to improve the quality and effectiveness of legal writing in their offices.

Twitter, email, and other social media get simple ideas across quickly. But the law is seldom simple. New attorneys who have grown up with these electronic medium often struggle to transition to the more complex and subtle writing needed in legal practice.

This webinar is designed to introduce supervisors to several techniques that will help your attorneys become better writers faster. Covered subjects include:

Jacqueline Kutnik-Bauder has over ten-years of experience teaching legal writing to law students and legal professionals. She was a member of the Legal Writing Institute for over a decade, and was appointed to two-year terms on the Institute’s Teaching Resources & Development Committee and the Committee on Upper Level Writing. Jacqueline received her J.D. and Masters in Social Work degrees from Washington University in Saint Louis. Before entering academia, she was the Managing Attorney for the Children’s Legal Alliance – a program of Legal Services of Eastern Missouri – where she practiced in state and federal court as well as in front of administrative hearing officers. In addition, she has criminal litigation experience from her time as an Assistant Public Defender for the state of Missouri. Currently, Jacqueline is the owner of KB Consultants, a legal writing consulting service. 

Gene King is the former director of the Ohio Poverty Law Center and a career legal aid lawyer and manager. He is now consulting on staff development, executive recruitment and policy advocacy with legal aid programs and nonprofit advocacy groups.  Gene will facilitate this webinar.
