JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: SUPERVISING ATTORNEY, HEALTH Be a part of history; join the NLSLA Health Consumer Center (HCC) to lead a team of over 20 advocates that provide a wide-range of health focused advocacy in multiple forums including hotline consumer assistance, administrative hearings, litigation, state and county policy development, training and technical assistance and community education, and leads a network of community-based Medical Legal Community Partnerships (MLCPs). The Supervising Attorney will jointly supervise the HCC and MLCP projects in partnership with a second supervising attorney. Member of the NLSLA Leadership Team with responsibility for supervision, quality control and mentoring of lawyers and paralegals; overseeing case and outcome data collection/analysis and grant compliance; integrating health advocacy with the NLSLA's broader poverty law work in the areas of public benefits, immigration, housing, and economic security; and overseeing development of materials and trainings for government agencies and community providers. Available immediately and open until filled.


Salary & Benefits: Salary is $80,000+/yr depending on experience. NLSLA provides a wide range of exceptional benefits including medical and dental insurance, contributions to a 403(b) tax savings plan and paid vacations and holidays.

The NLSLA staff of 100+, including 40 lawyers, provides legal assistance to low-income individuals, families and groups in the areas of family law and domestic violence, housing, health care, education, public benefits, economic and job development, immigrant rights, consumer rights and environmental justice. The NLSLA headquarters is located in Glendale, CA with branch offices in Pacoima, and El Monte.

Requirements: 

Qualifications:

Minimum 8 years of practice, with a knowledge of public interest law practice and previous supervision experience. A proven leader with excellent written and oral advocacy skills and a commitment to address the core issues of poverty through innovative projects. Proven ability to lead and manage a team of advocates and coordinate and execute complex projects. Ability to communicate effectively with clients, staff, community organizations, and public officials and excellent interpersonal/management skills. Knowledge of health or public benefits law and bilingual skills in Spanish or Chinese strongly preferred. California Bar membership required.
