Staff Attorney
Micronesian Legal Services Corporation (MLSC) is hiring a staff attorney for our Palau branch office.
MLSC provides free high-quality civil legal services to people of limited financial means through a network of eight regional offices in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Republic of Palau. A central administrative office is located in Saipan. MLSC is a nonprofit corporation which has served Micronesia for nearly 45 years; it is funded by a variety of sources including the governments where we have offices and the U.S. Legal Services Corporation.
General Responsibilities:
MLSC increases access to justice primarily through three strategies: comprehensive civil legal services, from advice to representation in court; community education; and collaboration. We welcome applications from attorneys with experience and enthusiasm for advocating for low income communities using all three strategies.
The staff attorney, under the supervision of the office’s Directing Attorney, will assume a variety of existing cases including some in active litigation.
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary is 34,000 to $60,000 based on experience, with additional benefits including health insurance, life insurance, 401(k) contribution, annual leave, and relocation.
Applicants should be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association; or admitted to practice before the highest court of a jurisdiction where that court's jurisprudence is based upon the common law tradition; and if not already admitted and in good standing in Palau, then eligible for such admission.
