Staff Attorney
Full Time Staff Attorney – ILS New Albany branch office. The New Albany branch office provides a full range of civil services to clients in areas such as family, consumer, housing, health, income maintenance and employment. The full-time staff attorney will be a generalist with emphasis on income maintenance and public benefits law practice.
As part of the branch office, the staff attorney will provide legal assistance to clients who reside in a twelve (12) county service area, including New Albany. ILS, of which the New Albany branch office is a part, is a statewide, not-for-profit organization that provides free legal services to eligible clients in civil cases through eight (8) branch offices. ILS is funded by the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), five (5) United Ways, twelve (12) Area Agencies on Aging and approximately fifteen (15) other funding sources including foundations, community development block grants, law firms, corporations and individuals.
This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, negotiation skills, litigation skills and the ability to work as a team member. Knowledge of poverty law is preferred. Experience in providing services to poor people is preferred. Diverse economic, social, and cultural experiences are preferred. A second language is preferred. The staff attorney must be admitted to practice law in Indiana, admitted in another state and eligible for reciprocity in Indiana or qualified to sit for the next bar examination in Indiana.
