Resource Development Director

Inland Counties Legal Services is hiring a full-time Resource Development Director who is responsible for the planning, implementing and monitoring of all fundraising programs, including the development of annual appeals, fundraising events, community outreach events, private foundation, corporation, and government grant opportunities, and annual reports.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Purpose of Position: The Development Director reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the members of the Resource Development Committee of the Board of Directors, assisting board leadership with organizing and motivating Board members to carry out development activities and programs. The Development Director is responsible for the planning, implementing and monitoring of all fundraising programs, including the development of an Annual Campaign for Justice (Year End Appeal), Annual Celebration of Equal Access to Justice Wine, Beer & Culinary Tasting Benefit, community outreach events, private foundation, corporation, and government grant opportunities, and an Annual Report.

B. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Fundraising Plan: Responsible for setting goals for fundraising activities and creating an annual development plan as well as short term and long term goals. Participates in the Board Resource Development Committee meetings, and regularly scheduled full Board meetings as required by the Executive Director. 2. Events: Coordinates and administers all fundraising events. 3. Annual Appeals: Coordinates and administers annual appeals (General, Board, Staff, etc.), including overseeing data entry and gift acknowledgments. 4. Grants: Research funding opportunities for private foundation grants, local and national corporation grants, and government grants, prepare proposals, assist with oversight of the project, and contribute to the preparation of grant reports, including working on existing grants. 5. Private Attorney Involvement (PAI) Activities: Assists the Executive Director or designee in promoting as well as expanding the program’s existing PAI Program, including recognizing volunteers at the annual event. 6. Staff Communications: Interfaces with board members, staff advocates and volunteers to support development efforts. Coordinates and prepares Annual Report, working closely with executive office staff. 7. Other duties as assigned by Executive Director.

D. Supervises: A Work Study Student or Intern when applicable.

Requirements: 

QUALIFICATIONS CRITERIA:

A. Education: Bachelor’s degree; relevant prior experience in a fundraising leadership capacity with a nonprofit organization; excellent organizational, oral communication, interpersonal and writing skills; experience with fundraising software and Microsoft Suite.

B. Interest in poverty law issues.

C. Skills: The successful candidate will be a creative and effective manager, leader and supervisor. Must possess solid strategy development and planning skills and be capable of developing and implementing clear goals, systems and priorities. The Resource Development Director must be comfortable in working in a dynamic, fast-paced, deadline oriented environment and be effective at developing interpersonal relationships both within the program and externally. Must demonstrate motivational skills, creativity and vision, and be energetic and congenial. Flexibility in working hours required as occasionally some of the work can only be carried out during the evening or on weekends. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial attitude toward fundraising, a mentoring style with staff and some experience with strategic planning. Must demonstrate strong writing skills.

D. Diversity: Ability to relate to the client community being served and to have an understanding and appreciation of diversity among the client community.

E. Licenses: California Drivers License including automobile liability insurance.
