NLADA seeks a Program Manager, Defender Legal Services.   NLADA’s Defender Legal Services Division (DLS) advances strategic initiatives to expand funding and enhance the ability of public defense programs to provide high quality representation and improve social outcomes for persons in contact with the criminal justice system.  Through advocacy, research, technical assistance, training and the development of tools and resources, DLS strengthens and protects the constitutionally guaranteed but frequently unfulfilled promise of the right to counsel for all Americans.

The ideal candidate is a creative, highly motivated, hands-on strategic thinker who utilizes effective communications skills, fosters partnerships and collaborates within and across departments and with others external to the Association to achieve division objectives. S/he  provides staff support for Association governing bodies, sections and committees;  leads and supports the development of projects and deliverables; writes and edits articles, publications and other documents; supports the development of training and meeting content; and supervises and manages law students.

Qualified candidates must be attorneys admitted to practice before the highest court of a state, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. This position requires a minimum of five years overall experience in the areas of indigent defense and/or criminal justice issues.  A minimum of 5 years of experience managing projects including federal funding and/or other grants, preferred.  Strong research and analytical skills, excellent organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to handle deadlines and competing demands, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment autonomously and in teams, and a strong commitment to the mission and goals of NLADA are required.

NLADA has a collegial, highly collaborative, professional office environment where employees take pride in effectively leveraging resources and fully engaging to deliver excellent results.  We value service, creativity, thought-leadership, diversity, human dignity and a passion for justice.  We are conveniently located near D.C.’s Metro Rail (red, blue, and orange lines).
