Pro Bono Coordinator

San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, Inc. (SDVLP) is a public interest law firm whose mission is to involve the private bar in the delivery of pro bono legal services in civil matters to low-income and other disadvantaged individuals, families and groups. We are seeking a Pro Bono Coordinator to work as an integral part of our leadership team. The Pro Bono Coordinator will be responsible for developing and managing a wide range of volunteer projects, recruiting legal volunteers, directing the placement of pro bono cases, developing pro bono recruitment and training materials, developing partnership opportunities with law firms and in-house law departments, law schools, bar associations and the judiciary, as well as supervising staff and volunteers. The Coordinator is also responsible for ensuring and safeguarding the integrity of SDVLP's volunteer and client database files through the development and application of quality control procedures. Independent and responsible judgment and initiative are required in all facets of the position. The minimum job qualifications include: membership in the California Bar; a minimum of seven years as a practicing attorney, including substantial litigation experience; knowledge of or experience with the non-profit civil legal assistance system and pro bono delivery models and issues; demonstrated organizational, administrative and technological skills, including knowledge of basic computer and database programs; proven experience in supervision and mentoring of less experienced attorneys, law students, and support staff; a demonstrated commitment to serve disadvantaged and needy individuals and families; knowledge of non-profit public interest law practice; ability to communicate effectively with clients, staff, community organizations, public officials, law firms and volunteer attorneys; excellent interpersonal/management skills; and the ability to project a favorable image of the organization in public relations activities, resulting in widespread community support and a positive reputation.
