Major Gifts Officer
The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA), founded in 1911, America’s oldest and largest nonprofit association devoted to excellence in the delivery of legal services to those who cannot afford counsel, seeks a Major Gifts Officer. This role will assist in establishing long-term partnerships and strengthening of relationships with existing public and private funders and individuals locally and nationally that will result in funding the short- and long-term goals and strategic plan of NLADA. This position will report to the Chief Development Officer and work closely with him/her to implement a comprehensive development program, including fundraising campaigns, individual giving, annual dinner, sponsorship, foundation and corporate giving, and corporate membership.
Responsibilities:
· Execute Annual Dinner, Luncheon and other special events: assist the Chief Development Officer with all aspects, including: logistics, sponsors, donor processing, program and managing of junior staff and volunteers.
· Develop cultivation and solicitation strategies for donors and prospects by assessing, philanthropic intent, interest in supporting NLADA, and giving capacity.
· Communicate regularly with donors and prospects to ensure high levels of engagement and ensure that donations are acknowledged in a timely and accurate fashion
· Set and manage schedules and timelines proactively for the department's objectives and strategic goals.
· Work collaboratively and closely with NLADA staff in multiple departments to coordinate to compile information and data, and schedule meetings as needed.
· Assist with the administration of NLADA’s grants program, to include: maintaining current information on all proposals; managing electronic and hard copy filing system; and handling the grant reporting process for assigned grants, including working with program staff to make sure submission of quality and timely reports.
· Write compelling proposals and develop sophisticated reports to secure new commitments and maintain existing donor commitments, including individual and corporate donations and foundation/government grants.
· Create Development content for website, social media, and other communications and work with external consultants on design for materials.
Qualifications:
· A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, with an advanced degree preferred
· A minimum of four years of increasing responsibility in resource development/fundraising and major gifts campaigns in an association or non-profit organization
· Requires demonstrated experience in grant prospecting and writing, a commitment to collaboration and a record of measurable results in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting donors, corporations and foundations as well as organizing and implementing activities such as annual gifts, grant-writing, corporate and foundation giving
· Strong organizational skills, incredible attention to detail, the ability to handle deadlines, and a strong commitment to the mission and goals of NLADA are required
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt quickly under pressure and work autonomously
· Skilled at working in computer applications and experience working in a donor database, preferably Abila netFORUM
· Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
· Experience with financial processes, such as batching payments and creating reports
· Events experience preferred, such as coordinating logistics, managing registration, and working with vendors
