Intake Paralegal
POSITION: Full-Time Intake Paralegal (Beginning May 1, 2016)– The Evansville branch office of ILS has an opening for a full-time intake paralegal. ILS is a statewide, not-for-profit legal services organization providing free legal services to eligible clients in civil cases.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary role of the intake paralegal is to interview all potential clients. Interviews are conducted by telephone and by face-to-face meetings. The intake paralegal will assist staff attorneys in a variety of civil cases, including domestic violence family law cases, public benefits cases, landlord tenant cases and consumer law cases. The paralegal will assist attorneys with drafting of pleadings, correspondence, interviewing of witnesses, legal research, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be professional and organized, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word and able to quickly learn new software. Needs to be team-oriented and calm under pressure. Excellent case management skills and able to shift focus and priorities without hesitation. Experience in providing services to low-income persons is preferred. Diverse economic, social, and cultural experiences are preferred. Spanish fluency preferred. College degree and paralegal certification preferred.
