Health & Benefits and MLP Attorney

Description: 

Legal Aid Society has an immediate opening for an attorney in its Nashville office. The attorney will handle civil cases, with an emphasis on health and public benefits and will be responsible for our Medical-Legal Partnerships (MLP) with community based health providers and ensure compliance and accurate reporting on the grants funding MLP. Practice in other areas of law, including domestic violence, housing, consumer, special education, humanitarian immigration, and elder law will be necessary to provide holistic representation and meet the needs of the firm. Participates in administrative advocacy and community education for clients. The Nashville office serves Davidson and Williamson counties, but the attorney is expected to provide assistance throughout the 48-county service area of the Legal Aid Society. Legal Aid Society has thirty attorneys in eight offices in Middle and East Tennessee. Its attorneys provide low-income people expert legal assistance at all levels of state and federal court. Its staff includes national authorities in the fields of domestic violence, housing, consumer law, federal income taxation, health advocacy, nonprofit group representation, social security and special education. Requirements: 

Applicants must be licensed in Tennessee or eligible by reciprocity from another state. Experience in health and public benefits law a plus. Applicants should have demonstrated interest in public interest law, health and public benefit law, and the issues of disadvantaged communities. Ability to relate to the needs of people of diverse backgrounds and adhere to confidentiality standards. Must have ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; work with a team and independently; use Microsoft Office software and Legal Files database. Must have driver’s license and access to transportation. Spanish language, residence or intent to reside in the office’s service area and a sense of humor are preferred.
