Executive Director

Description: 

The Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center (APALRC) seeks candidates for the position of Executive Director. We are looking for an energetic individual who has a track record in leading organizations that advance social justice.

The Position:

The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of the APALRC, who will report to the Board of Directors and provide the overall vision for the organization. The Executive Director provides oversight of the legal programs, leads and implements resource development initiatives, develops and implements strategic plan, manages the finance and operation of the APALRC and represents APALRC in local, regional and national collaborative. Key priorities for the Executive Director include the following:

- To serve as the public face of the APALRC, carrying out a leadership role in local, state and national networks of legal services, immigrant rights advocates, social and racial justice advocates, client and social services communities.

- To provide the leadership, supervision and mentorship to staff to strengthen, protect and focus high quality work of maximum impact for clients.

- To help APALRC develop and implement a strategic plan to accomplish the organizational vision.

- To creatively work with the board so that members actively contribute to APALRC’s success.

- To collaborate with partners and service providers on behalf of eligible clients.

- To develop and strengthen the funding base to support the work of the APALRC.

- To provide oversight on the organization’s budget, cash flow and financial management.

- To assess key needs of the APALRC such as office space and technology infrastructure to promote highest levels of efficiency

 

Organization Background:

The APALRC is a non-profit legal services organization dedicated to advancing the legal and civil rights of Asian Americans in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Northern Virginia through legal services, education, and advocacy. The mission of the APALRC is to provide linguistically accessible and culturally appropriate civil legal services to low-income Asian immigrants to ensure their access to government services and the legal system to protect and enforce their rights, and to seek full participation in the American society. The APALRC provides legal services in a wide range of legal issues including abuse prevention, employment, family, housing, immigration, public assistance and community development matters.

Requirements: 

Qualifications:

- A demonstrated commitment to advocacy in support of the legal rights of eligible clients and to equal access to justice.

- Progressive non-profit management experience involving staff supervision, financial oversight and reporting, budget development, and compliance with grant, contract and legal requirements.

- Experience working with or familiarity of Asian immigrant community.

- Experience in resource development for non-profits including funder and donor cultivation, grant writing, project development and event planning.

- Familiarity with federal and state civil legal aid organizations preferred.

- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.

- Skills in relationship building and stakeholder interaction rooted in collaboration.

- Demonstrated success in resource development and fundraising.

- Experience and skill in communicating with a strong active board of directors.

- Ability to establish and maintain close working relationships with staff.

- A minimum of eight years of experience as an attorney.

- Possession of a JD and license in the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia, or willingness to become licensed in one of these jurisdictions within reasonable time.
