Program Mission: Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, Inc. (LSEM) provides high quality civil legal services and equal access to justice to low- income people in 21 counties of eastern Missouri.

Title: Director of Development & Marketing

Reports to: Executive Director

 

Employees Supervised: 1) Associate Director of Development for Grants; 2) Development Associate and Special Events Coordinator; 3) part-time Development Assistant

 

Position Summary: This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations related to the development as well as marketing functions of LSEM, working to position the organization strategically for future fundraising success. Success requires providing support for the ED in his fundraising role, as well as working in close collaboration with other key personnel, staff and volunteers in a team approach. Work during evenings and weekends are sometimes required.

Worker Traits: Excellent organizational skills with strategic thinking; Creative; Flexible; Able to effectively handle many duties at the same time; Computer literate, strong writing skills, good management skills, including donor database and website experience; Willing to pitch in and do what is necessary to get a task completed; Dedication to serving the low-income community; Proven ability of successful networking and human relation skills are an absolute must. Ability to be a strong advocate and effectively work with staff across the organization is essential.

Responsibilities • Primary responsibilities of the position are:

o Leading the annual fund efforts for the organization, including all individual and law firm solicitations, direct mail, stewardship and acknowledgement activities,

and working closely with the Development Committee and other fundraising volunteers in order to achieve consistent annual growth of raised revenue. o Leading the marketing efforts of the organization, including branding, print, electronic and social media, as well as public relations efforts, to achieve increasing visibility in the community as well as improve fundraising effectiveness.

o Providing oversight of research, submission and reporting on Corporate and Foundation grants.

o Working closely with the LSEM ED to support the Board of Directors, including working closely with the Governance Committee to facilitate effective recruitment of new members and ongoing engagement of the board. o Managing development staff effectively to achieve consistent annual growth in fundraising events (e.g., Justice for All Ball, The Common Good Awards, Donor Appreciation event) and other fundraising tactics, including online fundraising efforts and eventually a planned giving program. • Other responsibilities include:

o Facilitating effective relationships with United Way of Greater St. Louis, including participation in the Site Visit and planning thereof, as needed.

o Leading development team to ensure technical aspects of fundraising program are efficient and effective, such as donor database, online giving, website, e-newsletter, publications such as brochures, annual report, etc.

o Participates in drafting award nominations as appropriate. o Provides supervision to Development Associate regarding the Young Friends of LSEM

• Other Duties as Assigned

 

Salary: Commensurate with experience

 

Requirements: 

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree required.

• Must possess 3-5 years fundraising and/or marketing experience, with a proven track record of success. Prior experience in a legal setting and/or prior legal aid work is particularly desirable. Should also have supervisory experience.
