POSITION:                                             Director of Information Services and Telecommunications

SUPERVISOR:                                        Director of Finance & Operations

WAGE RANGE:                                      $67,500 to $92,200 Depending on Experience            

JOB CLASSIFICATION:                         Full time, salaried, exempt

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  The Legal Aid Society of Orange County (LASOC) and Community Legal Services (CLS) seeks a highly motivated and talented Director of Information and Technology (IT Director).  LASOC provides free legal services to low-income people in Orange County and southeast Los Angeles County and seeks to achieve justice for its client community.  LASOC employs approximately 90 employees, including 20 attorneys.  The program has an annual budget of more than $7.2 million and operates 4 neighborhood offices and many court based programs.

 

Evening and weekend work and some travel is required. DESCRIPTION OF KEY FUNCTIONS:

The IT Director is charged with researching and implementing ways that technology and network-based systems can increase LASOC’s productivity. The IT Director must also stay up-to-date with current and emerging technology and computing trends.

 

The day-to-day duties of the IT Director include the planning and coordination of:

 

  • Hardware and software installation and upgrades
  • Implementation and programming of computer networks and software
  • Development of private intranet and public Internet sites
  • Personnel equipment requirements
  • Digital security

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Implements and monitors LASOC’s computer back-up policy and procedures;
  • Evaluates new software and hardware products and operating systems, prepares clear and concise written analyses of their value to LASOC, recommends acquisition;
  • Maintains ongoing relations with software and technical support vendors;
  • Conceptualizes, designs, and implements new technical systems, which could include wide area networks, electronic mail and telecommunication systems;
  • Hire and manage technology consultants;
  • Develops, recommends and administers budget for technology;
  • Designs  and coordinates appropriate computer training;
  • Maintains physical inventory of computers/software and prepares all applicable reports;
  • Maintains documentation on software licensing agreements;
  • Supervisors Network Administrator and Data Base Manager;
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures relating to areas of responsibility.
  • Install new physical servers and configure the services on them (e.g. IIS, Apache, MS SQL, or MySQL) as our network grows;
  • Install and configure switches, routers, and other networking gear (though you can bring in support for this);
  • Support end users and troubleshoot their issues;
  • Resolve issues with broken equipment with little to no escalation;
  • Configure and troubleshoot Windows and Linux OS-related issue; and
  • Assist in creating and documenting new processes (and in improving existing ones).

               

Requirements: 

QUALIFICATIONS

Miminum Qualifications

    BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.
    Technical experience in network construction, switches, routers, Windows, and Linux system administration.
    Minimum of  7 years of experience in supervising information and technology systems

●        2 years of experience troubleshooting issues for Linux, Mac and Windows desktop environments.

●        2 years of experience working with and troubleshooting of HW/network related issues using both Windows and Linux based tools.

●        Reliable transportation.

●        Must pass background check.


Preferred Qualifications

●        Hardware knowledge: very good understanding of PC hardware, comfortable in troubleshooting and repairing servers with substantial experience in end-to-end ownership of issues and execution of small/medium size projects

●        Experience in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure with either a Windows or Linux backend.

●        Linux knowledge: familiar with Linux environment and experience as administrator.

●        Windows knowledge: Familiar with Windows server and Active Directory administration.

●        Networking knowledge: comfortable in troubleshooting network issues, familiar with main protocols and common types of devices and data transmission media.

●        Ability to work with and use outside consultants to help manage tasks.

●        Ability to self-manage and accomplish tasks with minimal supervision.

●        Ability to adjust quickly to changing priorities and make quick decisions with limited information.

●        Must be flexible on hours. Weekend and/or evening work may be required.

●        Must be able to take direction well and meet deadlines.

●        Able to lift/move 50 lbs equipment on a daily basis
