Directing Attorney
Micronesian Legal Services Corporation (MLSC) seeks to increase access to justice throughout Micronesia, through a network of regional offices in the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Republic of Palau.
MLSC is seeking applications for the position of Directing Attorney of our offices in Majuro and Ebeye in the Marshall Islands. The position is based in Majuro.
General Responsibilities:
Subject to the supervision of the Executive and Deputy Directors (who are based in MLSC’s central office in Saipan), the Directing Attorney will handle a wide variety of civil cases, including both litigated and non-litigated matters; conduct community outreach and education; and actively collaborate with others to increase access to justice for the over 50,000 low income residents of the Marshall Islands. The Directing Attorney will supervise a staff of about six secretaries, trial counselors/paralegals and lawyers, and direct and manage a busy regional office in Majuro and a satellite office in Ebeye.
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation includes an annual salary dependent upon experience, based on a competitive pay scale. Benefits include health insurance, annual leave, sick leave, and employer contribution to a retirement plan.
Qualifications:
· Have graduated from an ABA-accredited law school; or be admitted to practice before the highest court of a jurisdiction where that court's jurisprudence is based upon the common law tradition; and
· Admitted to practice before the courts of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, or eligible to be admitted; and
· At least three years of experience as an attorney; and
· Experience and ability in management, supervision, and leadership.
