Development Officer

Bay Area Legal Aid's (BayLegal) mission is to provide high quality legal assistance regardless of a client's location, language, or disability. BayLegal is the largest provider of free civil legal services to low-income residents of the San Francisco Bay Area, with regional offices in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties. BayLegal's 100+ staff members provide wraparound legal services in housing preservation, domestic violence and sexual assault prevention, economic security, consumer protection, and healthcare access.

Position: BayLegal is seeking an experienced and energetic Development Officer. The Development Officer will assist with developing and executing strategies to substantially expand BayLegal's private and major donor fundraising and unrestricted financial support for the organization. We are interested in candidates with fundraising experience in high wealth communities across the Bay Area. As a member of BayLegal's Development Team, the Development Officer will:

• Work with the Executive Director and Development Director to set and meet financial and non- financial goals for private donor fundraising
• Maintain and enhance BayLegal's individual donor program including: identification and qualification of prospects, relationship building plans and activities, strategic solicitation plans, stewardship and moves management plans, capital and other special campaigns
• Work with the Board of Directors to build individual support for the organization, including the identification and cultivation of prospective major donors
• Lead event planning and donor engagement/friend-raiser sessions
• Manage Salesforce fundraising database, which includes conducting donor giving analysis, producing reports to develop targeted donor growth and retention strategies, and gift and data entry
• Develop and maintain annual fundraising calendar, including all donor cultivation, solicitation, and acknowledgement activities
• Assist the Development Director, Director of External Affairs & Pro Bono, and Executive Director with projects related to building high profile donor relations
 

Requirements: 

• Is passionate about BayLegal's mission and possesses an ability to understand and enthusiastically articulate the goals and vision of a multi-disciplined poverty law firm
• Possesses a strong personal work ethic and ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision
• Demonstrates the ability to be entrusted with sensitive information and conduct daily activities with the utmost professionalism and integrity
• Exhibits excellent writing and verbal communication skills
• Is a creative problem solver
• Remains calm under pressure and works well as a dedicated member of a dynamic team
• Is experienced using fundraising software and understands the value of a data-driven fundraising process. Experience with Salesforce is preferred
• Demonstrates strong relationship building and management skills
