Communications Coordinator

Description: 

Massachusetts Advocates for Children (MAC) seeks a Part-Time (2-3 days/week) Communications Coordinator to support web & print and other communications for a non-profit advocacy organization serving the needs of vulnerable children facing barriers to educational opportunity.

 

About MAC

MAC is a private non-profit organization dedicated to being an independent and effective voice for children who face significant barriers to equal educational and life opportunities. During its forty-five year history, MAC has been at the forefront of statewide special education advocacy, particularly for children with autism; the impact of trauma on learning; and education reform in the Boston Public School system.

As an advocacy organization, communication is central to our mission. The ideal candidate is invigorated by the ownership of messaging initiatives that support our advocacy.  Strong written, visual, and digital communication skills are a must.  Strong visual storytelling experience is a plus.  It is also important that this individual be a strong collaborator who can partner with internal groups across our organization to develop content that captures the impact of our work.  

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

●       Content Management & Design

○       Manage ongoing website content updates and blog posts for massadvocates.org, for policy updates, events, and advocacy initiatives.

○       Design and produce print materials (reports, books, flyers, invitations, programs) to support advocacy and development projects and events, utilizing in-house capabilities and managing outside vendors as needed.

○       Develop and manage content calendar & approval process that drives programming for website, blog, social media, and email channels.

●       Email Communication

○       Manage monthly e-newsletter and campaign-based advocacy email distribution

○       Format and send all electronic communications (including Action Alerts, e-newsletters, Save the Dates) to supporters, members, and donors

○       Manage database functionality and subscriber list, including segmentation to enable targeted nurture/education campaigns

○       Deliver regular performance reports and provide optimization recommendations

 

Secondary Responsibilities:

 

●       Social Media

○       Publish content to social channels, engage staff in providing content

○       Create engaging content, including graphics and videos, for organizational print and virtual media

●       Public Relations

○       Prepare media materials, including press releases, media advisories and press kits

○       Deliver regular performance reports and provide optimization recommendations

Requirements: 

1-5+ years of professional experience; Bachelor's degree required – in a relevant field of study is desirable; Strong written, verbal and visual communication skills; Proven experience in digital marketing and/or communications; Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe design suite, PowerPoint or Keynote, Excel; Ability to admin Wordpress or other CMS, including light HTML; Experience with Salesforce, Access and/or other CRM tool and email marketing platforms such as MailChimp; Knowledge of traditional, digital and social media platforms and tools – LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Hootsuite and basic familiarity with SEO; Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as time-management, creative thinking, and organizational skills; Ability to work independently and in teams; ability to take initiative; relevant work or volunteer experience that relates to our mission is a plus.
