Attorneys - Family/Elder Abuse Law and Consumer/Housing Law
The Legal Aid Society has immediate openings for two attorneys in its Nashville office. One attorney will handle civil cases with a focus on housing and consumer law, including mortgage foreclosure and tenant’s rights. The second attorney will handle civil cases, with a focus on family law, including helping victims of domestic violence and sexual assault who are seeking orders of protection, custody, child support or divorce and a focus on elder abuse law, including helping victims of elder abuse with long term care issues, financial exploitation and consumer fraud. Practice in other areas of law may be necessary to provide holistic representation or meet the needs of the office. The Nashville office serves Davidson and Williamson counties. The Legal Aid Society has thirty attorneys in eight offices in Middle and East Tennessee. Its attorneys provide low-income people expert legal assistance at all levels of state and federal court. Its staff includes national authorities in the fields of domestic violence, housing, consumer law, federal income taxation, health advocacy, nonprofit group representation, social security and special education. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in public interest law, a commitment to high quality representation and a desire to handle cases that benefit individual clients as well as those impacting their communities. Must have ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; work with a team and independently; use Microsoft Office software and Legal Files database. Spanish language, license to practice in Tennessee, some legal experience, residence or intent to reside in the office’s service area and a sense of humor are preferred.
