Attorney – Supporting Families Workgroup
• Provide direct legal services to victims of domestic violence in both family law and immigration matters; • Develop appropriate outreach materials and disseminate information about rights and benefits available to domestic violence survivors in the areas of family law and immigration; • Identify significant legal needs and issues for domestic violence survivors in the areas of family law and immigration and develop plans, including litigation and policy to address those needs; • Outreach to communities where domestic violence victims are found; • Conduct domestic violence immigration and family law training to community based orgainztions, community groups, clients councils and Department of Public Social Services; • Work with paralegal in the provision of services and outreach to domestic violence survivors; • In conjunction with the Managing Attorney and the Pro Bono Director, recruit, train, and supervise volunteer attorneys and law students; and • Supervises legal clinic at courthouse one to three times per week.
• Active membership in the California State Bar; • 5-7 years litigation experience in State or Federal Court and preferably in domestic violence, family law, and high-conflict custody proceedings; • Demonstrated knowledge of domestic violence related family and immigration law preferred; • Ability to deal with people tactfully and effectively; • Demonstrated commitment to serving immigrant communities and survivors of domestic violence; • Bilingual preferred.
