Work location is NLSLA’s Pacoima office. Travel may be required throughout NLSLA service areas.
Salary:$52,587 - $83,845 - Commensurate with experience.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Hotline / Intake Attorney will staff a consumer assistance hotline, conduct intake and maintain an active caseload. The Attorney will be expected to maintain expertise on a range of health care access issues affecting low-income individuals including eligibility, access to care, affordability with emphasis on managed care delivery systems issues; manage a caseload of health advocacy cases performing intake and case management, negotiation with health plans, legal research, and preparation for plan grievances and administrative hearings.


Program Description:NLSLA is one of Los Angeles County's leading public interest law offices and has been the primary legal aid program serving the cities of Glendale and Burbank and the San Fernando and Antelope Valleys for more than 48 years and the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys and the city of Pasadena since 2001. The NLSLA staff of 100+, including 40 lawyers, provides legal assistance to low-income individuals, families and groups in the areas of family law and domestic violence, housing, health care, education, public benefits, economic and job development, immigrant rights, consumer rights and environmental justice. The NLSLA headquarters is located in Glendale, CA with branch offices in Pacoima, and El Monte. 

Requirements: 

Qualifications: Capacity to handle constant client contact and dedication to public interest work. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with moderate supervision. Excellent interpersonal and computer skills and an ability to problem-solve and patience/sensitivity with people in crises. Qualified candidates must be licensed to practice law in California and have strong communication skills (oral/written). Bilingual speaking, reading and writing skills in English and Spanish required; bilingual capacity in other high-need languages will be considered. Experience working with low-income individuals and families preferred. Experience with health and benefits advocacy desirable.
